Last Words
On friday night April 7th, Gregg Jeff and myself had gone through our normal routine. I stopped by Gregg's house to pick him up at around 7-730, we were heading to Friday's to watch a game as we often did. Like most nights, Jeff was going to stop by on his way home from work and join us for a pop! We stood there and joked and laughed for a while till it was time to leave. Following our routine, we left one car there and we all went home together in Jeff's truck. They dropped me off at home and then went home themselves.
Now for the day I'll never forget.
It was Saturday afternoon and I was mowing the front lawn, my truck was still at fridays. Half way finished with the lawn I look down my block and see Gregg's vette coming down the street. I also noticed that the "fat girl" had her face out the window and was loving the fact her dad had taken her for a ride to see her cousin Jack. He pulled up in front, and typical of Gregg, asked me what I was doing (cause standing there with a mower in front of me was not a good enough clue for him). I told him I was mowing. He then asked me "wanna go get your truck at Friday's cause I need to use the Jeep tonight". I said sure and when I was done with the lawn I would meet him at the house with the Jeep so he had it and he could then take me for my truck. For some reason that day I decided to take Jack with me to Gregg's. I'll never forget what he was doing when I pulled up. He was on the front porch with his blue hat, jeans, work boots and that memorable Gregg smirk. He had bailey outside and she was just laying around in the grass. When I got there the dogs played for a cuple of minutes and we decided to leave. All the way to Friday's Jack sat in Gregg's lap and did not move. Gregg pet him and kissed him a lot more than usual. We pulled up to my car and I got out, said goodbye and he kissed the dog. I stood ther for a minute and watched him pull way. That was the last time I would see him alive.
That night Jo and I decided we wanted to have some Mexican for dinner. I knew from that afternoon that Gregg had no plans so, knowing how much he loves his chips and salsa I decided to give him a call to see if he wanted to come with us. He picked up the phone in his usual fashion "YEAH". I told him what we was doing and asked him to join us. He thought about it for a couple of seconds ans aswered with:
"If I'm there, you'll see me"
These were the last words he spoke to me.
I have this to say to him.....
Everywhere I go I stare at the door and wait for you to arrive, knowing that you wont!!!!!
Until we meet again...I love you and Miss You!!!
PS...Bailey, Bogey and Divot say HI!!!!!
Love, Bro
